We finally have set the dates for the two workshops! It was not that easy to find good dates. Due to the easter holidays from 14th to 17th of April, this weekend is blocked for us. The workshop in Johannesburg will take place in the week before easter on 12th and 13th of April. We will have a group of high school students, which will get invited by our partner SciBono. SciBono also provides the venue.
The workshop in Cape Town takes place at University of Cape Town (UCT) and targets university students from UCT and Stellenbosch University. As we want to avoid conflicts with lectures, we start on Friday, 21st at approximately 5pm and continue with the second part on Saturday, 22nd.
We partnered up with SciBono for our workshop in Johannesburg! More information will follow soon.
The umnandi team is happy to announce that we have negotiated a collaborative partnership with Knowel. Knowel is an organisation which was initiated by Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship students in 2010. Knowel’s main purpose is to spread vital knowledge and this mandate strongly aligns with our ethos of empowering african entrepreneurs. The umnandi team looks forward to working with Knowel to ensure that both organisations can continue to have a positive influence on underprivileged communities in a sustainable manner.
Tonight, we had an exciting discussion with Ingenjörer utan gränser, i.e. Engineers Without Borders Sweden (EWB-SWE). We came to the conclusion, that we can have a very fruitful cooperation with valuable inputs and outcomes on both sides.
EWB-SWE will particularly help us elaborating on some sustainability aspects of our project and help us ensuring these in the future. They will also help us conducting similar workshops locally in Gothenburg.
We happily announce Engineers Without Borders South Africa (EWB-SA) as one of our major partners. It feels good to have somebody on site, who can help us organising certain things before we arrive.
EWB-SA will particularly organise the venues, choose participating students and help with other things. They will also provide a case for each workshop, which consists of an issue in the local community. The students shall find solutions to this case problem. They will also participate in the workshop, so they can take the knowledge we provide further.
From our side, umnandi will provide EWB-SA with the outputs from our project: (1) insights into the problems, which the participating students see in their communities. These will be brainstormed during the workshop. (2) solutions that the students envision, develop and pitch to us for the given case. These possible solutions may be developed further and implemented by EWB-SA in contact with the respective students. This gives them the chance to be proud of their idea and show them, that their input is respected and valuable and shows them, that they actually can move things.
that was some weeks ago. But you are not really alive, before you are online. So here we are: Online and ready to give you updates on our work!
