Empowering African Entrepreneurs
About
umnandi’s mission is to provide young South Africans with practical knowledge and motivation to pursue entrepreneurial projects that benefit their communities. umnandi is a project initiated by students of Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship (CSE) in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders South Africa (EWB-SA) and Sci-Bono.
We strive to inspire and empower young South Africans by conducting entrepreneurial workshops that teach enterprising concepts and practical tools to identify and evaluate business opportunities and develop an implementation plan. The workshops introduce fundamental startup theories and concepts around teamwork, idea generation, business development, pitching and more.
Two inaugural workshops were held in Johannesburg and Cape Town in April 2017 with around 80 participants. For the future, umnandi seeks to develop the concept further, expand the team, involve more partners and reach more people.
Who we are
We are a diverse team with different cultures, educational backgrounds and interests. In August 2016, we all started studying the master’s programme Entrepreneurship and Business Design at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Having felt the need to reciprocate the entrepreneurial knowledge we ourselves had gained, we set out to initiate umnandi, a social project that would act as a catalyst in igniting the minds of under privileged youth in South Africa.
